Jalandhar’s iconic TV tower will no longer broadcast Doordarshan’s programs, retires from service after 43 years

The TV tower, which once put Jalandhar’s name on the world map for its height, will no longer broadcast Door Darshan.  The tower itself came to be known as TV, but after 43 years of service, the TV tower broadcasting Durdarshan programs has been decommissioned from October 31.

  Because in the age of cable, DTH and OTT, the usefulness of the transmitter is gone.  Doordarshan Center Jalandhar head RK Jaringal has also confirmed that Doordarshan programs have stopped broadcasting from the tower.

  Special things about TV tower

  The construction of the TV tower started in 1975.

  In 1979 the tower was ready for program transmission.

  The elevation is about 800 feet (225) meters.

  Services are broadcast within a radius of 100 km from the tower.

  Advanced digital technology

  The TV tower at Jalandhar used to broadcast Doordarshan programs within a radius of about 100 km (omni-directional).  The only reason for the elimination of transmission services of TV towers is the advancement of digital technology.  Now Doordarshan programs are reaching people through Dish TV and various apps.  Due to this, there is no need to broadcast Darshan programs from the TV tower.

  The TV Tower is famous far and wide.

  The TV tower is so famous that some of the nearby colonies are also named after the tower.  Some commercial buildings are also known as towers.  The construction of the TV tower near Khambra on Nikodar Road was started in 1975.  In 1979, the tower was ready for program transmission.  The height of Jalandhar TV Tower is about 800 feet or 225 meters.
